Drunk driver with 1.86 per mille blood alcohol caught swerving in Euskirchen

A 25-year-old man from Nörvenich was caught driving dangerously in Euskirchen on March 22. Police stopped his vehicle after reports of speeding and erratic swerving. Inside the car, officers discovered multiple empty beer bottles scattered around.

The driver struggled to stand steadily when questioned by police. His breath smelled strongly of alcohol, and a breathalyser test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.86 per mille. Despite his impaired state, he had managed to avoid hitting the guardrail during his reckless driving.

Authorities took a blood sample for further testing and immediately confiscated his driving licence. Charges were filed against him for endangering road traffic. Official statistics from North Rhine-Westphalia show that between 2023 and 2025, around 1,200 cases of severe drink-driving were recorded, with blood alcohol levels above 2.1 per mille. In roughly 450 of those cases, readings exceeded 3.0 per mille.

The man now faces legal consequences after his licence was seized. His case adds to the growing number of extreme drink-driving incidents documented in the region. Police continue to monitor and crack down on dangerous driving behaviour.
