Drunk man tasered after stealing brandy and resisting Berlin police
Incident No. 0374
Emergency responders arrested a man in Berlin's Lichtenrade district late last night. According to preliminary investigations, the suspect—a 27-year-old later identified by police—entered a gas station on Lichtenrader Damm shortly before midnight. Witness statements from the employee allege that the man took two bottles of brandy from the shelf before leaving without payment. The staff member initially attempted to pursue the suspect but abandoned the chase due to the man's aggressive behavior and instead called the police.
When officers arrived, they located the fleeing suspect nearby and ordered him to stop and remain calm. Instead of complying, the man turned toward the officers, shouted at them, and advanced with raised fists. Police then used necessary physical force to subdue him and place him in handcuffs. The 27-year-old resisted so violently that officers were forced to deploy a conducted electrical weapon (commonly known as a Taser) to end the confrontation.
The intoxicated suspect was subsequently taken into police custody, where he remained until he sobered up. He now faces charges of suspected theft and resisting law enforcement officers.
