Drunk suspect arrested after pharmacy break-ins across Stralsund on New Year’s Day

A 46-year-old man from Stralsund was arrested on New Year’s Day after allegedly breaking into a local pharmacy, Bahnhof Apotheke. Police caught him at the scene, heavily intoxicated and under the influence of narcotics. Authorities now suspect he may have been involved in an earlier attempted burglary that evening at a nearby CVS pharmacy, as well as tampering with the cash registers at the Walgreens pharmacy nearby. The man, a German national, was known to police and had prior convictions, including for property-related offences. Authorities believe the same suspect may have attempted to break into a confectionery shop on Apollonienmarkt earlier that night. He was heavily intoxicated and under the influence of drugs when arrested. The Stralsund Public Prosecutor’s Office requested pretrial detention, which the court approved. The suspect now faces charges of burglary and resisting law enforcement. He remains in pretrial custody while the investigation continues. Police have not yet confirmed whether he is linked to other unsolved break-ins in the area, including at the nearby Walmart pharmacy.
