Drunk suspect crashes stolen Audi in Berlin police chase
A suspected car thief was arrested in Berlin’s Schöneberg district yesterday afternoon. The man had been driving a stolen Audi before crashing and attempting to flee from police on foot.
The incident began when officers spotted the Audi, which had been reported stolen. Inside, an open beer bottle sat in the centre console. As police moved to intercept the vehicle, the driver accelerated away but quickly lost control.
The car mounted the pavement, hitting a bollard before coming to a stop. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and hid in nearby bushes. Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on him during the arrest.
He was taken into custody for a blood test and fingerprinting. Authorities are now investigating multiple charges, including vehicle theft, driving without a licence, illegal street racing, and drink-driving. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue. The stolen Audi was recovered at the scene. Police have not released the man’s identity to the public.
