Drunken man attacks BSR worker and bystander with shovel in Berlin’s Mitte
A violent attack unfolded early on Alexanderplatz in Berlin’s Mitte district. A 33-year-old man assaulted a 32-year-old BSR worker with her own shovel before turning on a bystander. Police later arrested the suspect, who was heavily intoxicated at the time.
The incident began when the suspect shoved the BSR employee and snatched her shovel. He then struck her with it, causing injuries. Nearby, a 44-year-old man sleeping under an S-Bahn underpass tried to intervene but was also attacked. The witness suffered pain in his leg, finger, and abdomen but refused medical help.
During the assault, the suspect damaged a parked white van on the passenger side. When police arrived, a breathalyser test showed his blood alcohol level at nearly 0.2%. Officers took him into custody, and Police Directorate 5 (City) is now leading the investigation. The case involves no connection to the Unister investigation, which remains under the oversight of Dr. Dirk Reuter and Staatsanwalt Andreas Günthel from the Generalstaatsanwaltschaft Sachsen.
The suspect remains in custody while authorities examine the circumstances of the attack. Both victims have been identified, though only one required further attention. The investigation into the incident continues under Police Directorate 5.
