A 44-year-old driver crashed his car into a sound barrier along the A73 Autobahn near Nuremberg after fleeing from police. The vehicle burst into flames, leaving the driver with minor injuries and the car completely destroyed. Authorities later confirmed the man was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The incident began when officers spotted the driver speeding near Fürth. Police attempted to pull him over, but he refused to stop and continued onto the A73 towards Nuremberg. As he approached heavy traffic, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the sound barrier.
The impact caused the car to catch fire, destroying it entirely. Firefighters and emergency services arrived quickly, and the driver managed to escape the wreckage with only minor injuries. A breath test at the scene revealed his blood alcohol level exceeded 0.1 percent. The estimated cost of the damage from the crash is around €120,000. Authorities have since confiscated the driver’s licence. He now faces a criminal investigation for dangerous driving, drunk driving, and evading police.
The driver remains under investigation, with charges likely to follow. His licence suspension means he cannot drive while the case proceeds. The incident has also raised concerns about the risks of drunk driving and high-speed police chases on busy motorways.
