Dubai's hotels slash prices as Middle East conflict disrupts global travel
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted travel across the region. Airlines have cut flights, and governments are advising against non-essential trips. Yet, despite the instability, Dubai's hotels are slashing prices to attract visitors.
Tensions escalated in early March 2026 after airstrikes and attacks involving Israel, the US, and Iran. Airspace closures followed, forcing major airlines like American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines to suspend routes to Dubai. Delta Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Google Flights also halted flights, some until mid-March. Dubai's airports temporarily stopped operations, leaving tourists stranded and flights cancelled.
Data shows a sharp drop in international connections to Dubai in early 2026 compared to 2025. Eurowings alone has suspended multiple routes, while Germany's Foreign Office now warns against travel to many Middle Eastern countries. Reports of visitors witnessing attacks have grown, adding to the uncertainty.
Despite the turmoil, Dubai's hotels are pushing deep discounts for the summer. Mövenpick Grand Al Bustan is offering up to 64% off stays in May, June, and July, with a double room from May 1–10 now priced at €784 instead of €2,161. Atlana Hotel has savings of up to 54% for May and July bookings. Canal Central Hotel in Business Bay has also cut rates starting in June.
Tour operators and airlines remain hesitant to forecast how the situation will unfold for summer travellers. Many are monitoring developments before making further decisions.
The crisis has reduced flight options and left travellers facing delays or cancellations. Hotels in Dubai are responding with heavy discounts, but the overall outlook for tourism remains unclear. Authorities continue to advise caution for anyone considering trips to the region.
