Duisburg's New €8.7M Fire Station Hits Major Construction Milestone
A new fire station in western Duisburg has reached a key milestone with a Richtfest ceremony held six months after construction began. The €8.7 million project remains on schedule and within budget, offering modern facilities for local emergency teams. Fire Company 610, Fire Unit 603, and the youth fire brigade will all operate from the site once completed. The station's design includes a two-storey wing for administration and social spaces, alongside a single-storey vehicle bay. Inside, crews will find room for eight emergency vehicles, a dedicated wash bay, and updated training and recreational areas. The total usable space spans roughly 1,270 square metres.
Martin Murrack, city director and head of the fire department, commended the project's smooth progress. Matthias Palapys, managing director of Duisburger Infrastrukturgesellschaft (DIG), noted the technical challenges and high costs tied to the specialised installations. The new facility also marks a first for Philipp Bergmann, the recently appointed fire chief, who attended his inaugural Richtfest in his hometown. The station aims to support sustainable training and development for the next generation of firefighters in the region.
With construction advancing as planned, the new fire station is set to enhance emergency response capabilities in western Duisburg. The facility's modern design and expanded capacity will provide improved working conditions for Fire Company 610, Fire Unit 603, and the youth brigade. Completion is expected without delays or additional costs.
