East Frisia train attacked with stones, windshield cracked on route
A regional train in East Frisia was damaged by thrown stones on Monday evening. The incident happened shortly after the train left Norden station, leaving a crack in the windshield upon arrival at Norddeich Mole.
The locomotive driver reported hearing a loud noise during the journey but decided to continue. When the train reached Norddeich Mole, a two-centimetre-wide crack was found in the front windshield.
Authorities now suspect the damage was caused by stones thrown at the moving train. The Federal Police have launched an investigation into the dangerous disruption of rail services.
No official figures exist for similar cases of deliberate train damage by thrown objects in Germany over the past two years.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police examining the circumstances of the attack. The cracked windshield has raised concerns about the safety of train travel in the region. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
