Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Marks 57th Mission Despite Shutdown
Today marks the 57th flight of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., honouring local veterans. Despite the ongoing government shutdown, the memorials will be open for their visit.
Among the veterans on this flight are Shirley Putz, Kenneth Willie, Timothy Rudd, and Bernard Urbain, among others. They will visit the World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War memorials, culminating in a wreath dedication at Arlington National Cemetery.
The day will conclude with a Welcome Home celebration at the Eastern Iowa Airport at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a military band, a flag line, and participation from local emergency services.
The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight continues its mission to honour local veterans, even amidst the government shutdown. Today's flight and the subsequent celebration serve as a testament to the community's commitment to recognising their service.
