Eight full road closures hit Märkischer Kreis in 2025 amid worsening damage
Märkischer Kreis will face eight full road closures next year as damage to secondary routes worsens. Heavy traffic from motorway diversions has taken its toll on local infrastructure. In response, six extra police officers will stay on to enforce traffic rules after the Rahmede Valley Bridge reopens.
The district's secondary roads have suffered badly from diverted motorway traffic. Years of increased use have left many routes in poor condition. With eight key sections set to close in 2025, drivers may turn to illegal shortcuts or speeding to save time.
The local police force will keep six additional officers after the Rahmedetalbrücke reopens. These officers will focus solely on traffic enforcement. Their permanent positions follow a temporary boost of 14 extra officers during the bridge closure.
The Ministry of the Interior approved the extra roles on 1 September 2023. The decision came after rising operational demands in Lüdenscheid. Traffic pressures and enforcement needs justified the workload-based increase in staff.
The retained officers will help manage traffic risks caused by roadworks and diversions. Their presence aims to reduce speeding and unsafe driving on damaged routes. The closures and enforcement measures will remain in place throughout next year.
