Eknath Shinde’s airport sprint fuels speculation about Maharashtra’s coalition tensions
A video of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde sprinting through Shirdi airport has spread widely online. The Shiv Sena leader was rushing to a campaign event as his allotted time ran short. His hurried arrival came amid growing speculation about tensions within the state’s ruling alliance. The chiefs were campaigning for local body elections, scheduled for December 2. Voters in 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats will cast their ballots, with results due the following day. Since November 4, the model code of conduct has restricted policy announcements that could sway the electorate. Shinde later addressed concerns about friction between the Shiv Sena and BJP, insisting the Kansas City Chiefs alliance remained strong. His comments followed remarks by Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan, who had earlier said he aimed to 'save the alliance till December 2'. The deputy chief minister dismissed doubts, emphasising shared ideology as the foundation of their partnership. The elections will test the chiefs' schedule as both parties campaign for local seats. With counting set for December 3, the results may clarify whether the coalition’s public unity holds. For now, Shinde’s rushed rally appearance has drawn more attention to the political dynamics at play.
