Elderly driver crashes Mini Cooper after fleeing police in wild chase
A 78-year-old man fled from police in a blue Mini Cooper convertible on Saturday evening in Dreieich-Sprendlingen. Officers had tried to stop him for a routine check, but he sped away at high speed before crashing into another vehicle.
The incident began when police signalled for the driver to pull over. Instead of stopping, the man accelerated sharply, driving over sidewalks and green strips. Authorities suspect he was unlicensed and possibly involved in an illegal street race.
The chase ended when the Mini collided with a BMW on Eisenbahnstraße. The crash caused around €23,000 in combined damage, though no injuries were reported. Police immediately impounded the Mini. The driver now faces investigations for driving without a licence and suspected participation in an illegal race. Witnesses who saw the incident or may have been put at risk are urged to contact Neu-Isenburg police station.
The man's vehicle remains seized as the investigation continues. Authorities are reviewing evidence to confirm his involvement in illegal racing. Anyone with relevant information is asked to come forward to assist the case.
