Elderly German Woman Tricked Into Handing Over Cash in Cooking Pot Scam
A woman in her 90s from Rott, in the Landsberg am Lech district, has fallen victim to a sophisticated scam. Fraudsters posing as police officers convinced her to hand over a large sum of money and valuables. The incident involved an unusual method of collection—using a cooking pot left outside her home. The scammers first contacted the elderly woman by phone, claiming to be police officers. They persuaded her that her money and valuables were at risk. Following their instructions, she placed a five-figure cash sum and silver coins worth over €1,000 into a cooking pot.
The pot was then left by her front door, where an unknown courier later picked it up. The entire operation was carried out without raising immediate suspicion, allowing the fraudsters to escape with the items.
The case highlights a targeted scam affecting vulnerable individuals. Authorities have not released data on similar fraud incidents in Germany over the past year. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police urging residents to remain cautious of unsolicited calls.
