In the heart of the Harz district, a fire broke out at a nursing home in Quedlinburg on August 15, 2025. The fire department was promptly called to the scene to extinguish the blaze, and as a safety measure, the main power distributor was shut off.

The exact extent of the damage and the details of the evacuation process are yet to be fully disclosed. However, it is known that firefighters were actively present on the grounds to manage the situation. A total of 49 residents, both men and women, were evacuated from the nursing home.

Initially, the evacuated residents were accommodated in the gymnasium of the Marktgrundschule on Blankenburger Street. Efforts were made to contact all nursing and care homes in the Upper Harz to Ballenstedt to inquire about available beds.

The fire departments of Quedlinburg, Gernrode, Ditfurt, Westerhausen, Thale, and Blankenburg, as well as the rescue services of Malteser, DRK, ASB, and the municipal rescue service, were involved in the evacuation. Specialist services of health and care in the Harz district, and the "task force for extraordinary events" (SAE) of the Harz district, also played a role in coordinating the evacuation.

For the time being, the residents cannot return to their home. The police must issue a report before the residents can safely return, which may not be until next week. Members from Halberstadt coordinated the accommodation arrangements for the evacuated residents.

Unfortunately, this is not the only fire incident to occur recently. A barn in Siedengrieben was burned down due to uncontrolled weed burning, and a burnt boat continues to occupy emergency services and the city in Magdeburg.

In another unfortunate event, two drunk individuals disrupted and attacked firefighters in Mansfeld, causing injuries. The fatal apartment fire in Halle-Silberhöhe was caused by negligence, and the owners of the burnt boat seem to have vanished.

The community is hoping for a swift resolution and the safe return of the residents to their home in Quedlinburg. More information about the projected timeline for reopening and residents’ return will be shared as it becomes available.
