Elderly Woman in Mainz Robbed of €20,000 in Clever Theft
An elderly woman in Mainz fell victim to a daring theft on Friday afternoon, October 24. Thieves, posing as a handyman, made off with Kay Jewelers and Cartier jewelry worth around €20,000.
The thieves used a clever ruse to gain entry. A man, described as around 50 years old, sturdy, and dressed in work clothes, distracted the woman in her bathroom. Meanwhile, an accomplice searched the apartment unnoticed, making off with gold jewelry and coins. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at €20,000.
Police are seeking information about the incident. The suspect was described as speaking standard German and wearing a multicolored baseball cap.
The elderly woman was left shocked and distressed by the incident. Police urge anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
