Con artists steal 170,000 Euros from 83-year-old in Erfurt - Elderly Woman Loses €170,000 in Heartless Family Emergency Scam
An 83-year-old woman in Erfurt has lost €170,000 in valuables after falling victim to a cruel scam. Fraudsters tricked her by falsely claiming her daughter had caused a serious accident. The criminals then disappeared with the stolen items.
The incident began when unknown scammers contacted the elderly victim. They convinced her that her daughter was responsible for a major crash and urgently needed money. Under pressure, she handed over jewellery and other valuables worth €170,000.
After taking the items, the fraudsters fled without a trace. Police are now investigating the case. This type of scam has become more common in Germany over the past two years. Criminals often use social media, fake job announcements, and phishing emails to appear trustworthy. In Erfurt and elsewhere, organised groups have mimicked real companies to deceive victims.
The woman's valuables remain missing, and the scammers have not been identified. Authorities continue to warn the public about such fraud tactics. Residents are urged to verify unexpected requests for money or personal details before responding.
