Elm-Asse’s veteran mayor Dirk Neumann seeks re-election in 2026
Dirk Neumann, the long-serving mayor of the Elm-Asse collective municipality, has confirmed he will stand for re-election in 2026. With over 40 years in local administration, he describes the region as his professional home and plans to address key challenges in the coming term.
Under Neumann’s leadership, the municipality has completed several major projects. These include the new Hummelburg daycare center in Schöppenstedt, a nature-focused kindergarten in Schliestedt, and expansions of facilities in Denkte and Winnigstedt. Recent priorities have also involved upgrading fire protection, with new trucks procured and stations planned for Groß Dahlum and Winnigstedt.
Ongoing work features the renovation of Remlingen’s outdoor pool and an extension to Schöppenstedt’s primary school. Neumann highlights the need to secure funding for local governments, expand all-day primary school care, and improve climate and energy policies. Medical services in rural areas and public transport upgrades remain pressing concerns.
The long-standing issue of the Asse II nuclear waste repository also demands attention. Neumann has pledged to tackle these responsibilities with full commitment, aiming to keep all 34 communities in the municipality prepared for future demands.
Neumann’s re-election bid comes as the municipality faces multiple infrastructure, environmental, and social challenges. His experience and ongoing projects suggest a continued focus on stability and development across Elm-Asse.
