Construction work at the Elsen Bridge delayed - Elsen Bridge Delays: Western Section Now Set for January 2026

The Elsen Bridge construction project in Berlin is facing significant delays, with the western section now set to be completed in January 2026, at least a month later than originally planned. The project has been plagued by a combination of bad weather, staff shortages, organizational issues, and incidents including thefts and a workplace accident.

The delay has led to traffic being rerouted over a temporary bridge, which has exacerbated an already tense traffic situation in the area. The opening of the new section of the A100 at the end of August has also contributed to regular major traffic problems at the construction site. The increased traffic volume has resulted in significant traffic jams at times.

The primary causes of the delay include bad weather, which has hindered construction progress, and shortages of skilled workers at construction companies. Organizational problems and inadequate performance by subcontractors have also played a role. Incidents such as break-ins at construction containers and a workplace accident have further set back the project.

The Elsen Bridge project is now expected to be delayed by several weeks, with the western part of the road bridge over the Spree not likely to be completed until January, possibly later. The ongoing traffic problems in the area highlight the need for the project to be completed as soon as possible. However, with the current challenges facing the construction process, it remains to be seen when the bridge will finally be opened to traffic.
