Construction work at the Elsen Bridge delayed - Elsenbrücke Reconstruction Faces Delays Until January 2026
The reconstruction of the Elsenbrücke in Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district is facing delays. Originally planned for completion in December 2025, it may now extend into January 2026 or later. Weather, thefts, and skilled worker shortages are contributing to the setback.
The western part of the road bridge over the Spree was initially expected to be finished this month. However, weather conditions and thefts on the construction site have caused setbacks. The traffic situation in the area has been tense since the A100 extension went into operation. After its opening at the end of August, there were regular major traffic problems at the construction site. Traffic is currently being rerouted over a temporary bridge to dodge the construction.
Shortages of skilled workers at construction companies are also playing a role in the delay. Construction on the Elsen Bridge is now expected to be delayed by several weeks.
