EMERCOM Kazakhstan Celebrates 30 Years of Saving Lives and Mitigating Disasters
The Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of Kazakhstan has reached a significant milestone, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Over the past three decades, the service has successfully assisted nearly a million people and mitigated over half a million emergency situations, demonstrating its commitment to public safety and disaster management.
On 'October 19 - Day of the Rescuer', a press conference was held at the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Vice-Minister for Emergency Situations, Major General Kegen Tursynbayev, highlighted the modernisation of the service's management and operational services, leading to more effective action and reduced consequences of natural disasters. The event also marked the strengthening of EMERCOM's material and technical base, with the acquisition of aircraft, equipment, and gear over the past two years.
Throughout its history, EMERCOM has collaborated with international organisations such as the United Nations, the Red Cross, the International Rescue Committee, NATO, and national emergency services. These partnerships have facilitated international training, rescue, and humanitarian assistance. The service has successfully responded to large-scale emergencies, including forest fires in Kostanay and Aбай regions, technological accidents at coal mines, large-scale floods, and the rescue of citizens following the Azerbaijan aircraft crash. EMERCOM's multi-profile structure unites various services, including fire and rescue units, military personnel, medics, aviation and naval services, training centers, scientific institutions, and a personnel training center.
As EMERCOM marks its 30th anniversary, it continues to evolve and strengthen its capabilities. Universal rescue complexes, combining firefighters, rescuers, and medics, are being established in phases and are already operational in several regions. Additionally, air detachments for rapid response to emergencies have been established in Shymkent and Aktau, with plans to expand to all regions. The service's dedication to public safety and disaster management ensures that Kazakhstan remains well-equipped to handle emergencies and protect its citizens.
