Employee Honors Down Syndrome Girl's Memory with 'Run for Ally' Campaign
André Sole-Bergers, a dedicated employee of Lebenshilfe Kreis Viersen, embarked on a journey to Lebenshilfe Brandenburg - Potsdam e.V. to raise awareness about the charity run 'Run for Ally - for remembrance'. His mission: to honour the memory of Ally, a four-year-old girl with Down syndrome who fell victim to the Nazi euthanasia program, and to fund an animated film about her story.
During his trip, André visited Brandenburg an der Havel, stopping at various Lebenshilfe locations. He paid a poignant visit to the Memorial to the Victims of Euthanasia Murder, a somber reminder of the past. The heart of André's campaign, 'Lauf für Ally' (Run for Ally), aims to collect donations for an animated film about Ally's fate. This film, initiated by André, is also supported by Ulla Schmidt, a former Federal Minister, and the Gemeinde Schwalmtal.
With a production cost of approximately 300,000 €, the film project has already received contributions from previous donations and charity runs. The final product will sensitively blend documentary elements and animation, serving as a long-term educational tool to sensitize viewers about the historical denial of rights and the ongoing need for true inclusion of people with disabilities.
André Sole-Bergers, with his 24 years of experience working with people with disabilities, is committed to making visible the historical injustices and advocating for true inclusion. The 'Run for Ally' campaign, through its animated film project, seeks to honour Ally's memory and educate future generations about the importance of respecting and valuing the lives of all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
