Engie Takes Over Berlin's Zoofenster, a Skyscraper of Technical Marvels and Challenges

Engie Deutschland has assumed full operational management of Berlin's Zoofenster building, one of the city's five highest skyscrapers housing a five-star hotel, premium offices, and retail spaces across 36,000 square metres. The contract includes oversight of all technical systems and infrastructure within the complex site.

The Zoofenster presents a technical challenge due to its advanced systems. Claudia Kuhn, Engie's Regional Director of Facility Services, described it as a highly intricate building. Under the new agreement, the company will manage all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services, including pool technology and specialised fire suppression.

Engie's responsibilities extend to emergency power, Hi-Fog mist fire protection, and coordination with external contractors. The team will also support tenant fit-outs and events while prioritising energy efficiency. Modern energy management systems and optimised controls will be integrated to reduce consumption. No details about the building's architect were disclosed in available records. Previous references linked the Zoofenster to Otis elevators but provided no further design information.

The contract places Engie in charge of day-to-day operations for one of Berlin's most prominent high-rises. Technical oversight, emergency systems, and energy management will now fall under their control. The Zoofenster's mixed-use functions and complex infrastructure require continuous specialist attention.
