In a significant move to accelerate product development and meet the nation's growing demand for next-generation defence technology, Archer Aviation has announced two strategic acquisitions.

The acquisitions, which align with an industry trend as evidenced by the Pentagon's recent budget request of $13.4bn for autonomous military systems, are aimed at advancing the development of next-generation defence technology.

Archer has acquired a patent portfolio from Overair, a company that originated from Karem Aircraft, and critical composite manufacturing assets and a manufacturing facility from Mission Critical Composites. The acquired patent portfolio and essential personnel from Overair will bolster Archer's defence technology programme requirements for rapid prototyping and iterative development.

The manufacturing facility, spanning approximately 60,000ft2, will enable Archer to establish in-house composite fabrication capabilities, a crucial step in the production of advanced defence technology.

The acquisitions follow a strategic partnership announced in December 2024 with Anduril for co-developing hybrid, autonomous VTOL military technology. This partnership, combined with the recent acquisitions, positions Archer as a key player in the development of next-generation defence technology.

Archer's founder and CEO, Adam Goldstein, stated that the acquisitions are part of the company's commitment to accelerate product development to meet the country's needs. The capital raised for these acquisitions will be used to explore both defence and commercial avenues.

The demand for Archer's offerings has increased, particularly from major allied defence programs globally. This increased demand underscores the importance of these strategic acquisitions in positioning Archer at the forefront of defence technology.

The successful raising of $1.3bn in capital has supported these acquisitions, further solidifying Archer's position in the defence industry. The acquisitions in June 2025, however, did not publicly reveal any companies specifically to strengthen its defence capabilities, according to available search results.

Archer Aviation secured $850m in funding in June this year, following an Executive Order from President Trump to expedite the deployment of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in the US. This funding will undoubtedly contribute to Archer's ongoing efforts to revolutionise defence technology.

As Archer continues to grow and innovate, it is clear that the company is committed to meeting the needs of the defence industry and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in technology.
