Envoy thanks Malaysian employers for trust in Bangladeshi manpower
The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur recently celebrated International Migrants Day and National Expatriates Day 2025. The event highlighted the crucial role of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia’s economy and their ongoing contributions to Bangladesh’s development through remittances and skills.
During the celebration, High Commissioner Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury thanked Malaysian employers for their continued trust in Bangladeshi manpower. Speakers at the event praised the professionalism and dedication of Bangladeshi workers, noting their significant impact on Malaysia’s economic growth.
The High Commission also honoured 23 individuals and institutions among the expatriate community. These awards recognised their outstanding contributions to both Malaysia and Bangladesh. In his address, the high commissioner urged Bangladeshi expatriates to participate in the upcoming national parliamentary election through postal ballots. This follows the launch of the **Overseas Bangladeshi Voter Facilitation Initiative (OBVFI)** in November 2025 by the interim government under Muhammad Yunus. The initiative ensures effective voting arrangements for overseas Bangladeshis. The Malaysian government, employers, and relevant institutions are collaborating with the High Commission to safeguard workers' welfare and rights. This partnership aims to create a secure and supportive environment for expatriate workers.
The event underscored the importance of expatriate contributions to both nations. With the OBVFI now in place, Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia can exercise their voting rights in the next election. The High Commission continues to promote their engagement in national development while ensuring their protection abroad.
