Essen police hunt man who attacked victim with a table in shocking assault
Police in Essen are searching for a man who attacked a 21-year-old with a table on 29 May 2021. The assault, captured on surveillance footage, left the victim with minor injuries. Authorities have classified the case as grievous bodily harm and released a photo of the suspect in hopes of identifying him.
The incident began on Rüttenscheider Straße, where the suspect was walking with three other men. They encountered two young women accompanied by the victim, a 21-year-old from Bottrop. A verbal argument broke out, escalating quickly.
The attacker then grabbed chairs and hurled them at one of the women. Moments later, he picked up a small table and threw it, striking the victim in the back of the head. After the assault, the suspect fled on foot toward Bredeneyer Straße before vanishing near Wegener Straße. Essen's Criminal Investigation Unit 34 is leading the inquiry. Police have shared an image of the suspect and are asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
The victim suffered minor injuries from the attack. Investigators continue to review surveillance footage and follow leads. Anyone recognising the suspect is encouraged to contact the police immediately.
