Essen's Mobile Citizen Service Marks First Year with 721 Appointments
Essen's Citizens Bank Case, a mobile service for severely mobility-impaired residents, has completed its first year of operation. The service, equipped with a laptop, printer, scanner, fingerprint sensor, and camera, has processed 721 appointments since its launch.
The Citizens Bank Case offers a range of services, including applications for identity documents, temporary identity documents, eID cards, registration/move-out registration, and issuance of certificates. These services are provided on-site, free of charge, to permanently or temporarily severely mobility-impaired persons and residents of nursing and care facilities.
The mobile team, consisting of three employees, uses a specially purchased citizens mobile to visit those in need. Citizens can also contact the service via the city portal's service portal or the ServiceCenter Essen (0201 88-33111) on weekdays from 7:30 to 18:00. In its first year, the service successfully processed 409 identity card issuances and 91 relocations.
The Citizens Bank Case has proven to be a valuable service, enabling location-independent handling of citizen office matters for those unable to visit offices independently. More information about the service can be found at www.our website/citizens case. As of 15.10.2025, the service is exclusively available in Essen, with no specific information on expansion to other cities.
