Ho Chi Minh City Launches Three One-Stop Service Centers for Victims of Violence and Abuse

Ho Chi Minh City officially launched three new one-stop service centers on May 28, aiming to support women and children affected by violence and abuse. The facilities will be stationed at Children's Hospital 1 in District 10, HCM City's Children's Hospital in Bình Chánh District, and the HCM City Orthopaedic and Trauma Hospital in District 5.

The city-funded centers offer comprehensive support services, including medical care, psychological and legal counseling, and referrals to shelters, housing, and other community resources. The integrated services aim to address the complex needs of survivors more effectively, reducing the need for individuals to navigate through multiple agencies for assistance.

Speaking at the launch, Vice chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyễn Văn Dũng highlighted the importance of the initiative. With HCM City being the most populous city in the country, complex gender-based violence issues have been identified. The city has taken strides to address this problem through multiple policies and intervention programs.

The newly launched centers form part of a collaborative effort by the city, UN Women, UNICEF, and UNFPA to combat gender-based violence and support vulnerable populations. These centers are intended to provide timely and quality services to ensure that no one is left behind in the city's development process.

The first one-stop center called "Bồ Công Anh" was established in 2023 at Hùng Vương Hospital in District 5. The pilot model demonstrated the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary approach and offered support to over 224 cases involving women, adolescent girls, and children who were victims of violence and sexual abuse.

According to available data, the majority of victims are women and girls, and most perpetrators are men. In some cases, victims suffer from multi-layered abuse inflicted by multiple family members. The model has shown promise in improving survivor safety, health, and long-term recovery, as well as reducing re-victimization.
