Estonia fortifies borders with Russia as China talks focus on security threats
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has revealed that discussions about Russia's threat dominated a recent meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, despite China's unexpected policy shift. Meanwhile, Estonia is bolstering its border defenses and has issued a stern warning to China about maintaining good relations.
Tsahkna disclosed that the meeting with Wang Yi focused around 80% on the Russian threat, indicating the gravity of the situation. Estonia, in response, is fortifying its border with Russia. It's employing a mix of physical barriers like tank obstacles and fences, along with strategic use of natural terrain like moorlands. This initiative is a joint effort between Estonia's Defense and Climate Ministries, aiming to protect biodiversity while strengthening security.
Estonia is also tightening its border controls. It enforces strict customs checks at all crossings and has reinforced sanctions against Russia following high-level meetings like the one with Wang Yi.
Estonian Foreign Minister Tsahkna has made it clear that maintaining good relations with Estonia requires addressing certain issues, a message likely directed at China. Estonia continues to strengthen its border defenses and enforce strict controls in response to the perceived threat from Russia.
