Estonia Marks UN's 80th Anniversary, Calls for Stronger Baltic Air Defence
Today marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. On this occasion, Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has expressed his country's strong support for the UN and its values. He also took the opportunity to highlight Estonia's achievements and call for increased Baltic air defence.
Tsahkna praised NATO's response to Russian provocations, stating that the alliance's actions have been crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the region. He also presented evidence of Russian fighter jets violating Estonian airspace, emphasising the need for stronger air defence measures in the Baltic states.
In his statement, Tsahkna acknowledged the UN's significant role in global affairs, but also criticised the organisation for its handling of the Ukrainian conflict. He accused the UN of hypocrisy, stating that its actions have not aligned with its stated values and principles.
As the UN celebrates its 80th anniversary, Estonia reaffirms its commitment to the organisation's values and goals. However, the Estonian Foreign Ministry has also called for the UN to hold Russia accountable for its actions, including violations of Estonian airspace and aggression in Ukraine.
