Ethiopian Ambassador Strengthens Economic Ties with East Thuringia’s Gera
Gera, a city in East Thuringia, welcomed a significant visitor today. His Excellency Eskindir Yirga Asfaw, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Germany, arrived to strengthen ties between Ethiopia and the region. The visit was facilitated by local entrepreneurs Ralf Schmidt and Robby Hüllner, who drew on their history with the Fortschritt-Kombinat, a company that once supplied agricultural machinery to over 70 countries, including Ethiopia.
The ambassador's visit kicked off with a warm welcome from Gera's Mayor Thomas Lenk. The mayor stressed the importance of the partnership with Ethiopia, a country with vast potential and a young population. The event provided an opportunity for discussions with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the automotive guild, and other business partners. The talks focused on skilled labor security and exploring economic ties between the two regions.
The entrepreneurs, who initiated the visit, expressed their gratitude for the ambassador's presence. They highlighted the long-standing business connections through the Fortschritt-Kombinat, which supplied agricultural machinery to Ethiopia in the past. The ambassador, in turn, appreciated Gera's economic engagement with Ethiopia and signed the organization's Golden Book during a reception.
The visit of Ambassador Eskindir Yirga Asfaw to Gera aimed to expand international economic and cultural relations between Ethiopia and the East Thuringia region. With the support of local entrepreneurs and the mayor, the event fostered productive discussions and marked a significant step towards strengthening these ties.
