Ethiopian Rose Farm Wins Top Sustainability Award for Zero-Waste Innovation

Holla Roses BV, known in Ethiopia as Ziway Roses PLC, has won the first Royal FloraHolland Sustainability Award 2025. The company earned the prize for its fully circular waste management system, which turns all rose production waste into compost, biogas, and vermicompost. The award highlights its commitment to environmental and social responsibility in the floral industry.

The Royal FloraHolland Sustainability Award recognises achievements in social responsibility, responsible business practices, and technological innovation. Ziway Roses stood out for its closed-loop system, which cuts emissions, produces renewable energy, and boosts soil health without chemical fertilizers.

The award confirms Ziway Roses’ position as a leader in sustainable floriculture. Its circular system minimises waste, generates clean energy, and strengthens local communities. The company’s Fairtrade certification further reinforces its long-term commitment to ethical and eco-friendly practices.
