EU and Kazakhstan Strengthen Ties Over the Middle Corridor’s Strategic Role
A high-level roundtable took place in Astana on November 19 to explore ways of deepening ties between the European Union and Kazakhstan. The event, organised by the European Parliament, focused on the Middle Corridor’s growing importance for trade and strategic cooperation. Fabienne Van Den Eede represented the EU at the discussions, which highlighted shared economic and logistical priorities.
The meeting centred on the EU-Kazakhstan Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA), with MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk stressing its role in overcoming regulatory and infrastructure hurdles. He described the Middle Corridor as more than a trade route—a corridor of opportunity and a bridge of stability—while acknowledging ongoing challenges in logistics and regulatory alignment.
The roundtable reaffirmed the Middle Corridor’s strategic value for both the EU and Kazakhstan. With billions invested in infrastructure and a shared focus on regulatory alignment, the partnership aims to strengthen trade links while reducing reliance on less stable routes. Further cooperation in logistics, green initiatives, and policy harmonisation is expected to follow.
