EU invests $21.6B in Trans-Caspian route to strengthen Europe-Asia ties
The EU has allocated a significant sum, approximately US$21.6 billion, to support the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. This move coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the EU, highlighting the bloc's interest in the region's strategic significance.
Kazakhstan is emerging as a crucial link between Europe and Asia, bolstering its logistics networks along the Middle Corridor and exploring new avenues in space cooperation. The country's growing role in EU supply chains, driven by economic growth and infrastructure development, was emphasized by Kazakh Ambassador to Germany Nurlan Onzhanov.
Sergey Lagodinsky, a German Member of the European Parliament, underscored the EU's interest in Kazakhstan's broader strategic significance, including its potential in space technologies. Michael Harms, Executive Director of the Eastern Committee of German Economy, clarified that the Global Gateway initiative is focused on strengthening interregional trade and the EU neighborhood policy, not just connecting China and Europe.
The EU's investment in the Trans-Caspian route, coupled with Kazakhstan's strategic positioning, is set to enhance connectivity and cooperation between Europe and Asia. As the region marks a decade of partnership, both sides look forward to further collaboration in various fields, including space technologies.
