Europe’s Zelensky-Backed Washington Trip Collapses After Trump’s Ultimatum
European leaders had planned a high-profile visit to Washington alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Their aim was to push a new 19-point proposal and sway former U.S. President Donald Trump. But the trip fell apart after Trump refused to meet Zelensky unless a major deal was secured.
The plan involved European leaders travelling with Zelensky to Washington in a coordinated effort. They wanted to present a fresh 19-point proposal and gain Trump’s support. However, the U.S. administration dismissed the idea outright.
The failed visit highlights the challenges in securing U.S. support for Ukraine’s proposals. Zelensky’s team and European allies must now reassess their approach. Trump’s insistence on a major deal before any meeting leaves little room for immediate progress.
