Eurowings Technik Gearing Up for Boeing 737 MAX Returns
In an exciting development, Eurowings Technik, a key player in the aviation industry, is set to introduce the 737-8 MAX 8 into its fleet. This modern aircraft, packed with cutting-edge technology, is set to revolutionize Eurowings' operations.
The 737-8 MAX 8 boasts a fiber optic network, LEAP engines, and touchscreens in the cockpit, among other advancements. For passengers, the upgrade includes LED lighting, larger baggage compartments, USB-C ports, seat pockets, and even internet on board. This transformation promises a more comfortable and connected travel experience.
Eurowings Technik is not embarking on this journey alone. They are collaborating with several partners, including Lufthansa Technical Training, Nayak, Sun Express, TUI, and other unnamed partners within the 737 MAX-operating network and the Eurowings group.
The introduction of the 737-8 MAX 8 is expected to result in less maintenance effort, higher reliability, and lower costs. This is particularly significant as Eurowings executes the largest fleet rejuvenation in its history with this new addition.
The maintenance of these aircraft is meticulously handled. Each aircraft undergoes a module check approximately every 52 days in Düsseldorf, a process that takes about 80 to 100 man-hours and includes inspections of flight controls, hydraulics, landing gear, cabin, and cockpit.
Eurowings Technik's Düsseldorf location is home to around 120 employees, with an additional 65 in the planning department in Cologne. The organization is gearing up for the new 737-8 MAX 8, preparing through training, new IT systems, procurement of spare parts, and the selection of maintenance partners.
Kurt Hofmann, a renowned figure in the aviation industry, regularly appears on Austrian, Swiss, and German television and radio stations to discuss topics related to commercial aviation. With 30 years of experience under his belt, Hofmann is responsible for Austrian news and airline portraits or interviews with airline CEOs for AERO INTERNATIONAL.
Eurowings operates a fleet of 100 Airbus aircraft at 13 locations. The 737-8 MAX 8 will not only improve operational performance but also contribute to more punctuality and competitive prices for customers. This winter, 61 aircraft will undergo base maintenance in Düsseldorf.
Eurowings Technik continues to attract qualified applicants for maintenance and trains five young talents every year. The balance between reliability and maintenance costs shifts significantly around the second IL-Check or D-Check, which occurs at around 18 to 20 years old for Eurowings' aircraft. This new addition to the fleet is set to tip that balance in favor of reliability and cost-efficiency.
The 737-8 MAX 8 also offers more space in the galley for crew members, improving working conditions and loading flexibility. This upgrade, combined with the other advancements, promises a brighter future for Eurowings Technik and its passengers.
