Dispute over Refund of Fees: Comparison between Consumer Centers and Eventim - Eventim settles €20 voucher deal for pandemic-cancelled concert fees
Germany’s Federation of Consumer Organizations (vzbv) has settled a dispute with Eventim over service fee refunds for concerts cancelled during the COVID-19 pandemic. The agreement offers a €20 voucher to affected customers who joined a collective legal action against the ticketing giant.
The settlement follows a long-running disagreement over whether Eventim should refund service fees for events scrapped due to pandemic restrictions. Around 5,000 customers who registered with the vzbv by the deadline will now receive a fixed €20 voucher through an online portal. This amount applies regardless of how much each individual originally paid in fees.
The deal requires claimants to submit their request via Eventim’s dedicated website by July 15. In return, the consumer group has agreed to drop its lawsuit against the company. Eventim, however, has not admitted any general obligation to refund service fees for cancelled events. The vzbv, also known as the Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband, had pushed for refunds on behalf of concertgoers left out of pocket when shows were called off. While the voucher resolves the dispute for those involved, the settlement does not set a broader precedent for future cases.
The agreement closes the legal battle for the 5,000 participants, who will receive their vouchers after submitting a claim. Eventim’s portal remains open until mid-July, but only those who signed up for the collective action before the cutoff date qualify. The company has made no further commitments beyond this one-time payment.
