Ex-Foreman Launches Earthworks Business in Dithmarschen After 15 Years in Construction
A new construction business has launched in Dithmarschen after Jamie Roy Robinson decided to go self-employed. The company, registered at his home in Heide, specialises in trench digging and earthworks across Germany. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Robinson is now taking on projects independently. Robinson, a trained mechanical engineer, spent his career working as a foreman and heavy equipment operator on construction sites. His work took him to 23 countries, building expertise in pipeline and cable trench construction, as well as coastal protection projects. In July 2024, he officially founded his own firm, marking a shift from employment to entrepreneurship.
The business currently operates with four employees and a fleet of four excavators. Demand has been strong, filling the order books and prompting plans for expansion. Robinson intends to hire an office assistant soon and may add more staff as the workload grows.
To improve efficiency, he is investing in a modified bulldozer designed to reduce ground pressure. This upgrade will support land reclamation projects, a key area for the company. The next step includes transitioning the business into a limited liability company (GmbH) and renting a larger facility in Hemmingstedt. The new space will house additional machinery and vehicles.
Outside the business, Robinson's wife, Jessica, also became self-employed earlier this year. She opened a pediatric physiotherapy practice in Heide, adding another venture to the family's entrepreneurial efforts. The company's growth reflects Robinson's long experience in heavy machinery and earthworks. With full order books and plans for new equipment, the business is set to expand its operations. The move to a GmbH structure and a dedicated facility will further support its development in the coming months.
