Former headmaster Riz Ahmed has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000 for abducting and raping an SSC examinee in Natore, Bangladesh. The incident occurred in October 2022.
Ahmed, who was also a headmaster at the time, lured the student into a microbus with a promise of better marks. He then confined her in a house in Rajshahi, where he repeatedly raped her, threatening her to remain silent. The victim's family filed a case against Ahmed and two others under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The trial, which took place in Bangladesh, resulted in Ahmed's conviction and sentencing to 14 years' imprisonment for the abduction and life imprisonment for the rape. Ahmed was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion from Kaliakoir in Gazipur.
Riz Ahmed's actions have been deemed heinous by the Bangladesh legal system. His life imprisonment and fine serve as a stern warning against such crimes, ensuring justice for the victim and society.
