Ex-KGB Officer Anatoly Turanov Now Leads Volga Regional Customs After Decades in Security
Colonel Anatoly Turanov has taken charge of the Volga Regional Operational Customs after a long career in security and global entry. His appointment came in 2009, following the retirement of his predecessor, Sergei Mikhalev. Turanov’s background includes decades of service in state agencies, beginning with his education in the KGB’s elite institution.
Born on March 10, 1959, Turanov earned a degree in international relations from the KGB Higher School named after F.I. Dzerzhinsky in 1985. His early career focused on state security before he transitioned to customs work in 1999 as an operational officer.
Turanov now leads the Volga Regional Operational Customs with a record of decorated service. His career spans KGB training, customs operations, and high-level administrative roles in USCIS. The appointment reflects his experience in both security and regulatory fields.
