Expanding Aviation Influence: Airbus Plans to Set Up New Operations Centre in Thailand, Strengthening Its Position as a Key Aviation Hub in Asia-Pacific
Aviation Agenda: Airbus Taps Thailand as Regional Powerhouse
Tackle the sky with Thailand, says Airbus President Anand Stanley for the Asia-Pacific region. With a booming aviation industry, cutting-edge technology, and growing aircraft orders, Thailand is stepping up as a global aviation leader. Instead of just a hub for Aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, Airbus sees Thailand as a significant center for advanced technology and engineering in the region's aviation sector.
Thailand is all set to dominate the global aviation scene. As the jet-setter's new preferred destination, Asia-Pacific tops the list for Airbus's growth projections, with a demand for about 20,000 new aircraft regional skies over the next 20 years - half of the global aircraft demand! Thailand's burgeoning aviation market is identified as one of the key players within this growth potential, according to Stanley.
This year, Airbus is set to deliver 820 aircraft globally, with most of the orders originating from the Asia-Pacific region. In Thailand, Airbus aircraft are taking flight with Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, and Thai VietJet. The anticipation is high for Thai Airways to debut its A321neo aircraft, featuring a new business-class seating configuration, before year-end.
Airbus remains committed to supporting Thailand's aviation industry and fueling the nation's economic growth. The aviation sector in Thailand plays a vital role in generating employment, with over 130,000 jobs and a 7% contribution to the country's GDP pre-Covid-19. Furthermore, Thailand shines as a sustainability trailblazer in the region, with Airbus projecting the potential for the nation to produce more than 5 million tonnes of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) annually. The agricultural sector, a goldmine for SAF production resources like molasses, rice straw, corn stalks, and animal waste, harmonizes perfectly with Airbus's pledge to collaborate with the Thai government and SAF producers to promote sustainable aviation fuel production.
To solidify its commitment to Thailand, Airbus has established a 1,200-square-metre office, complete with NAVBLUE, Airbus's digital aviation operations unit. This new facility will serve as a testing and verification center for software solutions destined for global airline customers. Additionally, it will function as a regional operations hub to assist and support aircraft customers across the Asia-Pacific region in real-time.
