Airbus H145's Five-Bladed Rotor Enhances Norwegian Air Ambulance Missions

The Norwegian Air Ambulance has taken a significant step forward in its life-saving missions with the introduction of the new five-bladed Airbus H145 helicopter. This state-of-the-art aircraft, already in service with the Norwegian Air Ambulance, offers a host of benefits designed for efficient and effective emergency response.

One of the most notable advantages of the five-bladed main rotor is its reduced noise profile. The quieter operation benefits both patients and people on the ground, particularly important in urban and sensitive environments. This is a crucial factor for the Norwegian Air Ambulance, as it operates in diverse environments across Norway.

The twin-engine configuration (Safran Arriel 2E turboshafts with FADEC) provides high reliability, crucial for emergency medical services where mission success is time-critical. The H145's roomy cabin can be customized for medical equipment and patient care, allowing easy access and maneuverability for medical crews during lifesaving interventions.

The H145's speed and range are also impressive. It cruises at around 132 knots (245 km/h) with a range up to approximately 370 nautical miles (685 km), enabling fast response and transfer over long distances, essential for emergency air ambulance operations.

Beyond air ambulance missions, the H145 can be adapted for various life-saving tasks, including search and rescue and law enforcement, making it a versatile platform for the Norwegian Air Ambulance service.

The H145 is equipped with the Helionix digital avionics suite and powered by Safran Arriel 2E engines. It is the quietest helicopter in its class and has the lowest CO2 emissions amongst its competitors. The high performance 4-axis autopilot increases safety and reduces pilot workload, making it an ideal choice for the demanding nature of emergency medical services.

The simplicity of the new bearingless main rotor design eases maintenance operations on the H145, further enhancing its suitability for the Norwegian Air Ambulance. Airbus Helicopters continues to be the leading provider of helicopters to the air medical transport industry, providing approximately 54% of the 2,700 EMS helicopters flying worldwide.

Thomas Hein, Head of Europe Region at Airbus Helicopters, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in their helicopters by the Norwegian Air Ambulance. The Norwegian Air Ambulance is adding two more five-bladed H145 helicopters to its fleet for life-saving missions in Norway. The five-bladed rotor of the H145 increases the useful load by 150kg (330 lbs.), further enhancing its capabilities for emergency medical services.

The CEO of the Norwegian Air Ambulance, Leif Olstad, has deemed the five-bladed H145 perfect for HEMS operations. With its quieter, more efficient flight, spacious cabin, reliable twin engines, and sufficient speed and range, the H145 is an ideal choice for the Norwegian Air Ambulance's diverse and demanding missions.

  1. The Norwegian Air Ambulance, in its pursuit of advanced technology for life-saving missions, also seeks to leverage the H145 in various sectors of the aerospace industry.
  2. Understanding the importance of finance in industry operations, the Norwegian Air Ambulance has chosen to invest in two more five-bladed H145 helicopters for their emergency medical services, demonstrating a commitment to infrastructure development within the sector.
