Expatriate voters gain flexibility in 2024 election registration rules

Expatriate voters will now find it easier to register for the upcoming national elections. The Election Commission has removed regional limits and strict deadlines, allowing them to sign up for the 2024 election from anywhere in the world. Registration will remain open until December 18, offering greater flexibility than before.

Previously, overseas voters faced a tight schedule. Registration was split into eight global regions, each given just five days to enroll in the election. This system caused difficulties for many living abroad.

The updated registration process gives expatriates more time and freedom to participate in the elections. With postal voting available, overseas citizens can now take part without the previous regional and time constraints. The Election Commission expects these changes to increase voter engagement from abroad.
