Expert: Belarus has good starting positions for the new five-year period
Belarus has kicked off a new five-year development cycle with strong foundations, according to experts. The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly recently gathered to review past achievements and set future goals, marking a significant moment for the country’s direction under President Alexander Lukashenko.
The Assembly assessed the results of the previous five-year period, highlighting steady economic growth despite global challenges. Officials emphasised that security remains a cornerstone for progress, particularly in response to rising militarisation in the region.
Demographic policy took centre stage, with leaders stressing the need for population growth to secure Belarus’s future. The new socioeconomic programme will prioritise rural and regional development, aiming to balance opportunities across the country. On defence, the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons and the Oreshkin missile system was framed as a strategic move. Authorities argued that these measures help stabilise the balance of power in Europe and act as a deterrent against potential conflicts.
The Assembly’s decisions set clear priorities for Belarus over the next five years. Economic stability, regional growth, and security measures will shape the country’s path forward, with demographic policies playing a key role in long-term planning.
