Consumer prices have shifted under the Trump administration, with some costs rising while others have fallen. Recent data shows changes in everything from food and fuel to travel expenses since last year.

President Trump has highlighted reductions in gasoline and egg prices, though official figures differ from his claims.

Food prices have seen mixed trends over the past 12 months. Beef costs surged by 14.7%, pushing overall meat prices up by 8.5%. Meanwhile, coffee prices climbed 18.9%, partly due to tariffs on Brazilian imports. However, egg prices dropped to $3.49 per dozen in September—down 43% from their March peak of $6.23.

Travel-related costs also varied. Airfares rose by 3.2% in September compared to last year. Hotel room rates dipped slightly by 0.8%, and car rentals fell by 5.0%. At the pump, gasoline averaged $2.998 per gallon in September 2025, nearly 40% lower than the $5.016 peak in June 2022 under the Biden administration. Global coffee markets reacted to U.S. trade policies. Brazil and other Arabica producers saw price declines after the U.S. first imposed, then removed, a 40% tariff on Brazilian food imports. A weaker Brazilian real and falling Arabica futures further pushed world prices down in recent months.

The latest figures reveal a split in consumer costs, with some essentials becoming more affordable while others remain expensive. Gasoline and egg prices have fallen significantly since earlier highs, though not as sharply as claimed. Meanwhile, beef and coffee continue to strain household budgets, and travel expenses show uneven changes.
