Fairfield University’s Bold Redevelopment Balances Heritage and Sustainability
Fairfield University, a renowned cultural hub on the Isle of Man, is set for a major redevelopment. Culture Navigator, the charity that has owned and run the building since 2015, has submitted plans for a comprehensive upgrade. The project, led by experienced project managers, aims to blend heritage preservation with modern sustainability while keeping the center operational throughout the work. The building was bought in 2015 using funds from the Kaneen Legacy and has served as Culture Navigator’s headquarters ever since. Now, the charity has applied for planning permission to carry out a detailed retrofit, including a small rear extension and new outdoor exhibition spaces. If approved, the redevelopment will transform Fairfield University into a more sustainable and efficient cultural center. The phased approach ensures the building remains accessible while upgrades are completed. The project’s success will depend on securing the necessary funding and community support from the local congress and house.
