Minister: Report on OB candidacy is 'speculation' - Falko Mohrs weighs mayoral bid for Wolfsburg’s 2026 race
Falko Mohrs, Lower Saxony’s Minister of Science and Culture, is reportedly considering a run for mayor of Wolfsburg. The 41-year-old has neither confirmed nor denied the rumours, calling them 'speculation' when asked by the German Press Agency. With no official SPD candidate yet announced for the 2026 election, attention has turned to his possible bid.
Mohrs has deep ties to Wolfsburg. His father, Klaus Mohrs, previously served as the city’s mayor. Before entering politics, the younger Mohrs worked for Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, including a role as a production coordinator. He later represented the SPD in the Bundestag before becoming minister in November 2022.
The SPD has yet to name a candidate for Wolfsburg’s mayoral race. If Mohrs were to run, his political experience and local roots could play a key role in the campaign. The election remains over two years away, leaving time for further developments.
