Families face 2026 deadline to clear affected graves in Villingen-Schwenningen
The municipal cemeteries in Villingen, Schwenningen, and Mühlhausen are preparing for major changes. Resting periods for certain graves will end on December 31, 2025, requiring families to take action. Relatives must now plan for the removal of headstones and grave accessories before the 2026 deadline.
The upcoming changes will affect specific grave types based on the year of death. Single in-ground graves for deaths up to and including 2000 will lose their resting period. Children’s graves for deaths up to and including 2015 will also be included. Additionally, single urn graves for deaths up to and including 2010 will be impacted.
The deadline for grave clearance is set for March 15, 2026. After this date, any remaining grave furnishings will be removed by the city. Families with affected graves must act before the cut-off to retain personal items.
