FAO, Bangladesh Strengthen Partnership for Digital, Export-Focused Agriculture
A significant meeting took place at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy on Friday. The bilateral meeting was attended by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Bangladesh's agriculture scholar Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The gathering marked a step towards strengthening FAO's partnership with Bangladesh.
During the discussion, Chowdhury sought further collaboration in several key areas. He expressed a desire to enhance agricultural research, focusing on export-oriented production and marketing. Additionally, he highlighted the potential of digital agriculture, indicating Bangladesh's interest in exploring this modern approach. Qu Dongyu, in response, committed to working more closely with Bangladesh in these areas. The two leaders announced future close cooperation between Bangladesh, FAO, and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in a zoom meeting. This collaboration aims to bolster agricultural research for food security, export-oriented production and marketing, and digital agriculture.
Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury thanked FAO for its continued support in advancing Bangladesh's agricultural sector. He also expressed appreciation for FAO's global events and Bangladesh's participation. The meeting ended with both parties expressing their commitment to a strengthened partnership, paving the way for future cooperation in agricultural development.
