Far East Entrepreneurs Shine in Sberbank's 2023 Small Business Contest

A total of 1,247 entrepreneurs from Russia's Far East entered Sberbank's 2023 'Favorite Small Business' competition. The regional round saw the highest participation from Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, and Sakhalin Oblast. After a tough selection, 96 finalists were awarded for their outstanding projects.

The winners represent a diverse range of sectors, from hospitality to healthcare. Eight top businesses will now advance to the national finals in Moscow.

Retailers submitted the most applications, followed by service and repair businesses. Restaurants and cafés ranked third in participation. Contestants highlighted successful projects from key economic centres across the Far Eastern Federal District.

Among the winners were a restaurant, a floral retail chain, a local brand, a farm, an agrotourism complex, a wellness centre, a sports school, and a speech therapy centre. Each business demonstrated innovation and growth in their respective fields. Inna Voiskovich, Director of Small Business Development at Sberbank's Far Eastern branch, spoke about the competition's role in supporting entrepreneurs. She noted how the event helps businesses gain visibility and access to resources. Andrey Blokhin, Minister of Economic Development for Primorsky Krai, added that the rising interest in the competition reflects broader growth in the region's small business sector.

The eight top finalists will now compete at the national level in Moscow. Their success in the regional round highlights the strength of small businesses in Russia's Far East. The competition continues to encourage economic development by recognising and rewarding entrepreneurial talent.
